Tesco shoppers in Colchester have donated £1,125 to The Reanella Trust to help youngsters living in the most deprived areas of the city.

The donation will fund an online mental health awareness and training course delivered by the charity to disadvantaged people aged 16-25.

The funds will benefit the charity's 'Resilience, Recovery, Relief' project, which focuses on youth mental health and educational support.

A spokesman for The Reanella Trust said: "We are incredibly thankful that both, Tesco, and Groundworks have given us this very generous donation.

"This support means that children in our local communities can learn about mental health awareness and coping strategies in the comfort of their own homes.

"We are keen to begin working with roughly 30-40 young people in the area and believe our course will have a significant impact on their mental health."

Since launching its Community Grants programme in 2016, Tesco has given more than £100 million to more than 50,000 local schools and community groups.

Keith Jackson, Tesco’s community manager for East and Midlands, said: "It’s organisations like The Reanella Trust why our Tesco Stronger Starts grant programme exists as it shows first-hand how our donations can and will positively impact local communities.”
