ODEON has issued an apology after a part of its ceiling reportedly crumbled and tore through one of its screens during a Disney film.
The incident took place on Sunday evening during a showing of Wish at the Colchester cinema in Head Street.
The screen has remained closed ever since and it is unknown when it is likely to reopen.
A spokesman for Odeon has now apologised and confirmed nobody was injured.
He said: “We are aware of an issue at Odeon Colchester and are taking steps to resolve it as soon as possible.
“No one was injured and everyone left the screen safely and received a full refund.
“The screen will remain closed until fixed.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
The building which now houses the Odeon has stood in Head Street since the 1880s when it was Colchester’s tallest structure, but concerns are now being raised about its integrity.
He wrote: “I emailed the health and safety team on November 8 with my concerns around the safety/integrity of the roof of the Odeon building – I’ve had no response.”
The Odeon has been in Head Street since it moved from Crouch Street in 2002.
